Latrine Complete

The Latrine Team arrived in June for five full days of toilet-building fun. The project turned out to be kicked off just in the nick of time — I will not elaborate.

Digging the trench nicknamed the Hatian Fjord

Mary Ellen, Tim, Ron, Nathalie, and Roland got right to work and with the help of the support team that arrived about two hours before the Latrine Team’s departure, finished the job on the fifth day.

Art painted onto the latrines

The amazing team from Tennessee came back a couple days later and painted the latrine (and their shoes and the ground:). This was a wonderful experience and a great team effort.

Ooops. A little paint on the shoes never hurt.

The kids had a blast watching us bumble around with power tools. I think we learned that for us it is better to measure four or five times and cut once, but for the most part everyone had fun and we accomplished our goal.

The team worked through the heat on construction

The kids now have four new latrines… score one for sanitation.
